To open Twistory, double-click on one of the Twistory document icons. There is one for the full database, and four sub-sets:
"Complete" (includes all of the following)
"Ancient" (history before about A.D. 475)
"Nations" (political and national history after about A.D. 475)
"Arts & Culture" and
"Sci & Tech".
(The history database is actually contained in a number of text files found in the "ttt" folder. The Twistory documents you see are index files which merely point into that folder using relative pathnames. So the "ttt" folder must stay in the same directory as the index files, and not change name.)
Quick Instructions
To control the time, use either the cursor keys, or the controls along the bottom of the main windows. You can also drag the contents of the time-line view. To move the map, drag the view or use the scroll bars. To go from map to time line, or vice-versa, double-click on a person or event icon. To get more information about an item, hold the command key down while you click on it (or select it and type command-I).
For more complete information, please consult the full instructions in the "instructions" folder. They are in HTML format, so you can view them with any web browser. In them is complete information on how to use the program, report bugs, find an updated version, or buy Twistory.
Notes
Twistory is shareware. If you decide you like it, and wish to purchase it, please send $10 (US or Cdn, or equivalent) to the address below.
Should you wish to contribute historical items to the Twistory database, you may e-mail them to me. It is not necessary to buy Twistory to do so. If you wish to add items just to your own copy of the database, the instructions also include a description of the TTT file format.
Regrettably, there is no PC version of Twistory at this time. In the future, I hope to port Twistory to Java, but it may take me a while.
